Many people get excited about summer, and for good reason. Just as with any other season there are some things you should be doing to get the most out summer health-wise. Here a few tips to make this the healthiest summer you’ve ever had!
Bust Out the Berries
Berry season is here, which is cause for applause everywhere. Berries such as strawberries, blueberries and blackberries are high in antioxidants to protect your cells, and they are high in fiber too. You can add them to desserts, freeze them for a treat on a hot day or add them to a morning smoothie.
Get Out in the Garden
Gardening is a great way to reduce stress both physically and mentally. If you are able, take the time to plant a small garden or even just a small flower box or pots, and cultivate that green thumb.
Every Day is a Wonderful Day for Exercise
Summer is the perfect time of year to get outside and get moving. You can take advantage of the sunny days and warm nights to go swimming, biking, walking or jogging. Get out of the gym, soak up some sunshine and start producing that Vitamin D!
Don’t Forget the Sunblock and Shades
While there’s nothing quite like getting out in the sunshine on a beautiful summer day, you can’t neglect your skin or your eyes. Make sure to apply sunblock and also to wear sunglasses to protect your eyes – they’ll help prevent cataracts and wrinkles in the skin around your eyes too.
Take a Vacation
With school out it’s the perfect time to get away and increase your family’s bond. Leave the stress of everyday life behind you and soak up the perks of a little rest and relaxation such as reduced stress, reduced blood pressure and reduced heart rate.
Careful Not to Overindulge
If you like to sit out on your deck and enjoy a cocktail or two on a balmy summer night or next to the pool you should go for it! But, you should also make sure to stay away from hard alcohol. Try to go light with wine or beer and remember that moderation is important.
Summer is a great time to get out and get busy, but you also have to remember to listen to what your body is trying to tell you. Don’t push yourself too much since the summer sun can be addicting and cause you to ignore warning signals from your body. If you run into problems, don’t forget that your chiropractor is but a phone call away!
