Cortisol is the hormone produced during stress that actually helps to relieve pain. To remedy the vacation migraine, try relaxing a little bit at a time by doing things like stretching or taking short walks.

Processed Meats

Hot dogs, deli meats, salami, and bacon all contain chemicals known as nitrates. Nitrates are preservatives that cause the blood vessels to dilate. The dilation is often the cause of severe headaches. Opt for fresh meats rather than the aforementioned processed meats.

Extra Weight

Research has shown that being overweight or obese might increase your risk of occasional migraines by nearly 81 percent. This is because obesity leaves you in a constant state of inflammation, which not only contributes to overall physical pain, but headaches as well.


Changes in weather have shown to be a trigger for migraines. The chances of getting a migraine would increase by 7.5 percent for every 9 degrees the temperature would climb. Becoming proactive with checking weather reports, and planning ahead as far as pain killers and hydration goes, can help battle those weather-triggered migraines.


Sleeping too much is often associated with migraines. This is because you are interrupting your general routines, which wreaks havoc on a migraine-sensitive brain. Physicians suggest going to sleep and waking up at the same time every day to avoid these headaches.
